Allegheny County uses a Base Year methodology to set real estate property assessed values. A “Base Year” methodology allows for similar homes to have similar assessments by eliminating the effect of changing market conditions. The County’s current base year is 2012.
Since the County’s current “Base Year” is over twelve years old, the Chief Executive has indicated that a county-wide reassessment should be explored.
Chris has had first-hand experience with a county-wide reassessment while serving as a Municipal Manager. He knows that such a reassessment process, using the current methodology, creates numerous real estate property value inequities and potentially thousands of assessment appeals.
Chris is determined to work with the Chief Executive and Members of Council to examine how other counties throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania do property assessments to determine a proper and fair solution.
